City of lights ‘FETHİYE’

Fethiye is located in mediterraneon climate. It is a typical mediterraneon town with is warm bloody people, with its culturel and natural rich ners, ıts mild climate. The average temperature of hot summer days is 30 C. This volue is around 12 C during rainy winter months. Climate conditions allow almost all vegatables and fruits to be grown.

  The old name of the city is Meğri, this name means ‘for away’. Fethiye joined the Ottoman Empire  in 1424. It was in the sovereignty of the Byzantine Empire before. Between May, 11,1919 and June, 20, 1920 Fethiye was under Italian  occupation.

    Fethiye has passed many important earthquakes. It is known that there was an earthquake in 1856. Fethiye which has been rebuilt, now has a modern harbor and marina.. The last eartquake in Fethiye 2012 has come to frution.

   Ölüdeniz is one of the most important natural beauties of Fethiye. It is one of the important tourism centers of Turkey. Blue-flagged  and uninhabited beach in the World. There are many coves open for tourism. Apart from each other beatiful sandy beaches araund Fethiye: Ölüdeniz( Belceğiz), Çalış beach, İztuzu beach (Dalyan ),Kabak bay sands. It is also open to cultural tourism with the remains of ancient cities. Some of the ancient cities around Fethiye are: Telmessos, Kaunos, Kadyanda, Tlos, Pınara, Letoon, Sidyma and Xanthos.

     Apart from these, Fethiye museum also serves tourism with its rich Works.Sports activities are also quite extensive. Nature walk on Lycia road, paragliding at Babadağ, horse riding, truck and jeep sightseeing , dive, sailing on Çalış beach, water sports(jet-ski), parasailing, waterski, catamaran, banana,ringo, surf,oarsmonship, rafting.

   It is also the most populer activiteur boat tour in the region. Another natural beauty is the Butterfly Valley. Valley is protected . More than 80 species of butterflies live.

  Another beauty is the Kayaköy. Kayaköy is a well-known place conneted to Muğla’s Fethiye district. Kayaköy consists of two very different settlemont areas.
